For your next anniversary try surprising your spouse with a romantic picnic in a park. Singapore certainly lives up to its name of a Garden City as we have close to 60 public parks and reserves. That’s an incredible number of parks all packed into an area of about 700 square kilometres!
Can a Picnic in Singapore be Romantic?
Mention a picnic, and the reaction you might get is one of doubt – won’t it be too hot and humid? What about all the creepy crawlies which might attack us or our food? But if you think about it, our climate is perfect for a picnic as long as you choose the right season and time for it.
First of all, if your anniversary falls during Singapore’s dry season, then you’ve got it made. Chances of rain on that special day are almost zero! If it’s during the rainy season, check the NEA Weather Forecast to pick a clear day, or choose a park with a romantic shelter – most of Singapore’s parks come with shelters strategically located throughout each park. And sitting together and watching the rain fall can be very romantic.
Go When it’s Cool
In a tropical climate like Singapore, picnics are best enjoyed in the cooler part of the day. So think out of the box – an early morning breakfast by Macritchie Reservoir, or a picnic under the stars as you revel in the cool evening breezes by the sea at East Coast Park will allow you to enjoy the scenery and each other’s company in comfort.
What to Bring
Packing for a picnic is simple. First, make sure you have a nice, sturdy waterproof picnic mat. An umbrella and insect repellent are definitely a must. A cooler bag with ice cold drinks or chilled wine, some fresh fruits and desserts are always welcome. And of course, don’t forget to bring your spouse’s favourite food, you can order them from a favourite stall or restaurant or make them yourself.
Bringing your picnic up a notch is easy too. If your picnic is at night, then surrounding your picnic mat with lots of tea lights is an instant way to bring a special glow to the evening. Create a shared playlist and listen to your favourite music together.
