Families For Life | Go on a Road Trip
Make your birthday celebration into a whole day or multi-day event by going on a road trip. Gather your best friends and family members and plan a trip. There are plenty of places in, or just a short distance away from Singapore that you can go to.
Get away and really spend time together, away from your daily routines and bond as you experience new sights and sounds. Don’t have a car? Renting a car and splitting the cost across 4 people for a day or two is still an affordable option, and in some cases, it’s cheaper than bus tickets for an entire group.
Planning and Preparing
This is key to ensuring a successful road trip. The better your plans are, the less stressful the trip will be. Here are some of the biggies to take care of:
Plan Your Route in Advance
Do some research, figure out where you want to go and how long you can go for. Will it be a day trip? Then maybe a Singapore-based itinerary or a short trip to Malaysia works best. Maybe you have more time? Then you could get more ambitious and plan something further away in Penang or Terengganu.
GPS, Maps and Guides
A planned route is not very useful without the ability to stay on it. So make sure that you have all your GPS devices, maps and guides ready. Make a note of rest stops, accommodation, things to do, and places to eat.
Get Your Car Checked and Sign Up for AA
The last thing you want is to have your vehicle breakdown in the middle of nowhere. So, send your car in for a check-up before you leave and sign up for a service like AA which provides towing assistance in Singapore and Malaysia.
Places to Go
There are numerous places to go just across the Causeway. Some trips worth considering are Desaru, Mersing, Malacca and Penang. If you plan to stay in Singapore, creating a theme around your road trip will make it more interesting. Perhaps you want to visit farms in Singapore? Look for rustic restaurants and cafes off the beaten track? Eat breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner at the farthest North, South, East and West points of Singapore? Brainstorm with your friends and family and make sure to bring along a birthday cake to end the day with!
