Mother’s Day falls on the first Sunday of the merry month of May. This year Mother’s Day is on 9 May 2021. For many of us, it can be a real challenge trying to find a novel way of celebrating the occasion for mum each year.
Here are some ideas to make this day a meaningful one, specially tailored to mum’s interests and personality.

If mum’s big on all things botanical, don’t miss the newly-opened Tropical Montane Orchidetum at the National Orchid Garden! Billed as the largest display of tropical orchids in the world, the attraction features dreamy trails winding through a secret ravine, mist gardens and air-conditioned glass houses. Treat mum to a hearty brunch afterwards at one of the many eateries in the Botanic Gardens.
The Orchidetum is open every day from 8.30am to 7pm. Children below 12 can enter the garden for free.
If Mum’s an Art Lover

If mum has a keen aesthetic eye and loves all things beautiful, she’ll be enthralled by the exquisite glass artworks by master sculptor Dale Chihuly set amongst the immaculate grounds and conservatories of Gardens by the Bay. There are workshops in glass fusing and batik painting if Mum or the whole family wants to get hands on afterwards!
Extend the experience by packing a picnic from The Social Kitchen, a social F&B enterprise located on the tallest Supertree, offering healthy grab-and-go nosh and gourmet coffee.
Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom exhibition runs from 1 May to 1 August 2021.
Tickets are available on Gardens by the Bay website.
If Mum Loves Quirky Experiences

Looking for unusual places or interesting experiences for a quirky, fun-loving mum? How about going plane-spotting at Seletar Aerospace Park? Once a British Royal Air Force airbase, the area is now an airport for chartered flights while its colonial black and white bungalows have been turned into a lifestyle enclave, home to restaurants, cafes and shops.
While you’re in the neighbourhood, check out the little-known Hampstead Wetlands Park — a tranquil marshland which has retained its rustic character and is a popular haven for migratory birds.
If Mum’s Adventurous

If you’ve yet to redeem your Singapore Rediscovers (SRV) vouchers, how about using them to offset the cost of a dining experience in the sky? Mum will be thrilled with a meal in mid-air on board the Singapore Flyer or a cable car, with the glittering lights of the city down below.
Sky dining experiences are SRV-eligible and available on Klook.
If Mum’s a Domestic Goddess
Don’t want to jostle with hungry hordes at crowded eateries? Whip up a sumptuous home-cooked meal in the comfort of your own home! If mum’s the chef in the family, she’ll be more than glad to take a break from cooking duties. Just make sure you do the washing up after, so she doesn’t have to.
If making a complete meal is too daunting for you, there’re always takeaway or delivery options. Just pick from the many Mother’s Day promotion sets available online.
