International Women’s Day is happening on 8 March this year, making it the perfect time to celebrate the women in your life. We all know many wonderful and important women – whether they are our mothers, sisters or friends, and of course, you may be one yourself! So here are some tips for organising something special for the women who mean the most to you!

1. Give them a break

If the woman in your life is always busy, she will surely appreciate a little time off. Encourage her to relax by offering to help out in any way you can such as cooking her favourite meal. If you have children, it could be a great bonding opportunity and a fun way for them to learn new skills. Otherwise, show your appreciation by taking her out for a meal to unwind or do something she enjoys.

2. Picnicking and relaxation

A picnic is a great way both to celebrate International Women’s Day and have a fun day out in the bargain. It’s a great way for the whole family to prepare and enjoy simple, healthy and delicious food together that you can bring along. Singapore’s many parks and beaches are perfect for a picnic where the only equipment you will need may be a picnic mat.

3. Singapore women’s hall of fame

Singapore has a colourful history, but are you aware of the role women played in its development? The Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) has curated a heritage walk where you can visit landmarks that tell the stories of women who had a hand in shaping Singapore’s history. This walk is an informative day out which you could enjoy together, or just a fun activity for friends and family. Join their organised group tours, or go on your own. Bring a bottle of water and an umbrella just in case!

4. Movie night with the girls

Movies in recent years have placed a heavy emphasis on the female voice, and so there is a sizable collection of such inspiring films to choose from. Take your pick, from the ever-pink Barbie to the dashing Wonder Woman, there are so many to choose from! Or if a female lead is not quite what you are looking for, there are also movies with female directors, providing a different perspective in the art of movie storytelling. Dim the lights and get out the popcorn for a night where ladies are the stars.
