Families For Life | National Day Activities you can do with your Family!
Noticed the increased sightings of our national flag, spotted the massive one flown by the RSAF’s Chinook in the skies above or wondered why so many jets are flying around in the evenings? Yes, you guessed right. It’s that time of year to don your red and white colours again for Singapore’s National Day, and what better way to celebrate it than with family across the nation with these exciting activities!
A Family that eats Together, Wins Together! #EatAsOneSG
In partnership with this year’s NDP, Families for Life invites you and your families to embrace the everyday moments - eating together, celebrating the spirit of togetherness! Family bonding does not need a special occasion; it can begin with something as simple as our everyday meal. Don't forget to snap a photo when you're out for a family dinner and share the joy with us @familiesforlife and @ndpeeps along with the hashtags #FamiliesforLife and #EatAsOneSG!

Won’t be on our shores this August 9th? No worries, because SG@Home has you covered! This virtual event includes special National Day-themed activities that anyone from any part of the world can access. So, if you’re feeling homesick this August, simply hop online to SG@Home from 1st August till 1st September.
Catch the RSAF’s Aerial Displays
If you’ve been out and about town these past few Saturdays, you might not have seen (but surely heard) the guardians of our skies rehearsing for their segment on August 9th. If you intend to catch the National Day Parade from the comfort of your living room this year, scramble to the nearest window as soon as you hear the familiar roar of those F-16 engines. You might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of our fighter jets flying a route that encircles the entire island. The roar of the fighter jets as they execute incredible manoeuvres always guarantees viewers are filled with shock and awe. It’s also an excellent opportunity to point out to your kids what role those machines and pilots play in protecting our skies.
See the static displays in the Heartlands on the following day
If you didn’t manage to score seats to the main event at the Padang this year, don’t worry, the organisers of this year’s NDP are bringing the festivities to the heartlands at 5 different locations. This free event is tailor-made for families with kids. You can check out cool static displays, enjoy carnival games, stage performances from local talents and even fireworks in the evening - all at your doorstep!
You can redeem your tickets for this special event at your nearest CC.
Catch Fireworks Along The Bay
The highlight of every NDP is the spectacular fireworks display that concludes the parade. If you’re set on catching the fireworks during this year’s parade, pack a picnic basket and some blankets, and secure a spot along the Singapore River or along the Helix Bridge with your family for a night filled with spectacular fireworks! Scheduled to happen between 7.30 pm to 8.20 pm, have your cameras or phones on standby to capture those iconic moments.
Make a Playlist of your Favourite NDP Tunes
A mainstay to commemorate each National Day is an original song penned and performed by a local artist. With Benjamin Kheng’s Not Alone being this year’s tune, you can even check out the official NDP 2024 playlist on Spotify. Why not turn your living room into your very own mini NDP concert, filled with new and classic NDP hits? It can be a great way to dive into some Singaporean nostalgia as a family.
Stream the National Day Parade
How will this year’s parade do compared to last year’s? Avoid the crowds and the heat, and cosy up on the sofa with your loved ones to cheer on the Red Lions, see the debut of the Singapore Army’s new Colt Infantry Automatic Rifle, the Civil Defence Force’s next-gen fire engine, and the PUB’s water wagon. Comprising over 2,100 participants, this year’s NDP promises to excite and inspire both young and old.
Fly Our National Flag Together as One
An annual tradition during the days leading up to August 9th is hanging a national flag outside your home. Parents can turn the act into a family bonding activity by explaining the symbolic meaning behind our crescent moon and stars (just remember to do the hanging of the flag yourself). It’s an excellent method of teaching your kids about our heritage while decorating your home for our nation’s 59th birthday. With Singaporeans flying their flags this year, we should see many estates turning a familiar shade of red and white!
