Kids love the open spaces at the Marina Barrage! The appeal of Marina Barrage lies in the natural beauty of the open vistas around the area. It is hard to imagine that this place wasn’t always here and that it took a conscious decision and almost 30 years of effort to create it.

It was Singapore’s Founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew who first mooted the idea of damming up the Marina Basin to create a large freshwater lake. Since then, not only has the Marina Barrage been created within this space, but also other iconic landmarks such the Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Financial Centre.

Features Kids Love at Marina Barrage

The Viewing Gallery at the Roof

This is an extremely large open grass patch, ideal for picnics and kite flying. On some evenings, you will find astronomy groups with their large telescopes gazing at the stars. There’s always something going on, day or night!

The Sustainable Singapore Gallery

Here visitors can get a multimedia glimpse of Singapore’s efforts in environmental sustainability. Look for the scaled-model of the barrage that demonstrates how the dam operates, as well as other sub-galleries and exhibits.

The Marina Reservoir

This is the dam itself, which stretches across to the other end of the Bay. It is a very long but beautiful walk, with a panoramic view of the Central Business District, Singapore Flyer, as well as Marina Bay Sands. You might even get to see happy couples taking wedding photos along this walkway as this is a popular spot for photography.

The Wading Pool

Your kids will really get splashing here! Surrounded by shallow water and fountains, it is the perfect day out for all kids. They will have no problems jumping in. Getting them out is the hard part.
