The Year of Celebrating SG Families was launched on Sat 12 Mar 2022 by FamilyTrees, a new initiative by Families for Life and the National Parks Board (NParks) under the OneMillionTrees movement.
FamilyTrees provides parents with the opportunity to commemorate the birth of their child by planting a tree. As families plant a tree together, it reiterates how everyone in the family has to come together to build up the family; and seeds a cherished memory as both the child and tree mature together. Like trees, our family bonds also need to be nurtured to grow well. At the same time, generations to come will enjoy the many benefits of our trees. As families come together to plant trees in this shared space, it also provides opportunities for the community to come together and build bonds.
After planting the trees, families can progressively post their family photos and track the growth of their tree alongside the growth of their children via NParks’ TreesSG online portal. Each family will also receive a commemorative FamilyTrees e-certificate.
As part of Singapore Together, the FamilyTrees initiative invites Singaporeans and their families to take ownership of our sustainable future. FamilyTrees is a milestone in enabling families to partner to create a greener, more sustainable Singapore together.
Here's how you can get started
• Register your family for tree-planting under FamilyTrees
• Join us at one of the FamilyTrees event to plant your legacy today!
Members of the public who are interested to play an active role in the greening of Singapore may also join other tree planting activities under the OneMillionTrees movement by registering your interest at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/treessg/one-million-trees-movement.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) has dedicated 2022 as the Year of Celebrating SG Families (YCF).
Fronted by Families for Life, YCF is a whole-of-society movement celebrating the importance of our families. In support of the Made For Families initiatives, families can look forward to family-friendly events, programmes and resources all year round designed to foster stronger families in our community.
• March to June 2022 – Celebrating Families: Celebrating different roles in families with the use of tentpole occasions such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to celebrate parents.
• July to September 2022 – Championing Family-friendly Workplaces and Culture: Championing family-friendly practices at workplaces can contribute to higher productivity amongst employees and lead to better business outcomes.
• October to December 2022 – Caring for Families: Caring society that embraces intergenerational, ageing, and diverse families.
Through YCF, we encourage everyone to build positive relationships with their immediate and extended families by putting the family values - love, care and concern, commitment and respect - into action.
The YCF logo is based on the design of a tree, and celebrates the deep-rooted bonds that families in Singapore enjoy.
Presented in the shape of a person with arms outstretched and feet on the ground; the tree signifies the values of strength, stability, rootedness, and the generations that comprise a family.
The deep roots represent strong foundations that children need to grow up with. The leaves are in vibrant and colourful hues; each representing the four family values of love, care and concern, commitment, and respect; and highlighting the unyielding shade, protection and care that families provide. Generations to come will continue to enjoy its shade, flowers, and fruits for sustenance.
