Families for Life Celebrations 2017 Highlights

  • Families for Life Duathlon

5km non-competitive and non-timed event that includes a run-and-cycle route along the Civic District’s closed roads. Flagging off at 8.15am, the run begins at National Gallery Singapore, followed by cycling along Amoy Street back towards the National Gallery Singapore.

  • Family Walk

Take a leisure walk down Civic District's closed roads to Telok Ayer and Amoy Street with entertainment and activities to participate in along the way. Flagging off at 8.30am, the Family Walk is a great way to bond with your extended family, if your family is spotted as the “Largest Family Contingent”, you will win $500 worth of dining vouchers! Come dressed in similar outfits or accessories to be easily identified!

There are 2 routes to choose from –  The 1 km Family Walk will be along St Andrews’ Road, Stamford Road, Esplanade Drive and ends at Fullerton Road. For those who wish to challenge themselves, there is also the 5km walk that will bring you to Telok Ayer and Amoy Street to enjoy the heritage activities by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan.

  • Breakfast Picnic

Join us for a tantalising morning picnic at the Padang from 8am - 12.30pm. There will be hawker delights with delicious local fare, organic produce at the Farmers’ Market, freshly-brewed coffee from Coffee Bandits Food Truck. Keep a look out for the Families for Life Mobile Cafe for complimentary snacks and drinks!

  • Family Sports and Games

A Family That Plays Together Stays Together! Play together at the inflatable sports zone such as Basketball Hoops, Soccer Goal Kicks, Archery or the Giant Obstacle Course. Team up and challenge each other at the Human Foosball, Nerf Shoot Out, or gigantic versions of Ping Pong and Jenga. Get active and sweat it out at the Family Fitness Party with Zumba, KPopXFitness and Laughter Yoga. There are also lots of bouncy castles for the little ones too!

  • “Drive-In” Movie Screening & Picnic

Wind down and chillax as the sun sets and spend quality family time with an evening picnic from 4.30pm - 9.30pm. Get creative and design your own unique family cardboard car to enjoy a “drive-in” movie screening of Despicable Me 2. Groove to the tunes by music duo Jack and Rai and get your free popcorn from the Families for Life Mobile Cafe to complete your movie experience.

  • Volunteerism and Charity Drive

Take this opportunity at the Celebrations to learn about how you can contribute through acts of kindness and volunteering and play an active part to reach out to the disadvantaged and look out for each other at the SG Cares booth.

People with special needs are part of our community and should have equal access to opportunities and good quality of life. The Purple Parade is a movement that supports the inclusion & celebrates the abilities of persons with special needs. Bring home exclusive Purple Parade merchandise at their Charity Drive at the Celebrations.

Families for Life Duathlon

Can’t decide which activity you and your family love better – running or cycling? Why not participate in both and join us at the first-ever Families for Life Duathlon!

The Duathlon is a 5km non-competitive and non-timed event. It will flag off with the run segment (2.5km) at St Andrew's Road, in front of National Gallery Singapore. The cycling segment (2.5km) will start at Amoy Street and ends in front of National Gallery. The route will be on closed roads.

Register as a family (maximum 10 family members in 1 entry) at only $15 per adult or child participant. Each participant will be entitled to one Families for Life Duathlon pack inclusive of an event T-shirt and a finisher medal. (Rental fee of bicycle is included in the registration fee).

Plus stand a chance to win family staycations at Resorts World Sentosa, dining vouchers and more in the "sure-win" lucky dip!

Children’s Season 2017

The National Heritage Board’s annual Children’s Season Singapore returns in 2017, presenting cultural and educational experiences that will inspire, engage and educate our young audience. This year’s edition goes beyond museums and will encompass all aspects of art, culture, heritage and education.

With a wide range of programmes, exhibitions and engaging family activities for children of all ages, Singapore will be the place to be for children and families to create special memories together this June!

Highlights this year include Join the Dots! at the National Museum of Singapore, where you can pick your favourite mode of traditional transport and embark on a trail to discover popular family hangouts and heritage enclaves from the 1970s and 1980s; as well as Ghost Nets of the Ocean - Au Karem ira Lamar Lu at the Asian Civilisations Museum, a spectacular marine-themed exhibition, inhabited by marine creatures made with ocean debris and recycled plastic materials that raises awareness on conservation and the dangers of ocean pollution.

Be transported to a wonderland of discovery and play at the National Museum this Children’s Season! Look forward to pop-ups of favourite Singapore family hangouts of the 1970s and 1980s, and a new interactive roving theatre that will take you around the museum’s galleries and spaces. Families can hop on their favourite mode of transport and go on a trail to “join the dots” and experience “connections” of friendship, family, monuments and memories through interactive exhibits and installations, sensorial stations, hands-on play, story-telling sessions and more! Young Cinema will also present well-known animated cartoons and children’s classics from the world.

Calling the young and young at heart! The first edition of the Children’s Biennale, a four-month-long festival organised by the Gallery, invites you to discover art in a whole new way. Explore dreams and stories through site-specific installations, interactive artworks and a stimulating line-up of music performances, film showcases and art-inspired programmes designed especially for kids and families.

In conjunction with the local Children’s Biennale, talented local musicians will take you on a journey through dreams and stories in Resonates With on Sun, 28 May at the Padang Atrium at 2pm, 3pm & 4pm.

Or start exploring how different kinds of work are depicted in art. Then, pick up an activity sheet and get to work at the Drop-in Activity: Artworks at the Keppel Centre for Art Education from 10am to 6pm.

The Civic District Tree Trail takes you through Singapore’s historic Civic District where you will be marveled by many majestic and interesting trees, some of which have stood tall for many generations and witnessed the transformation and progress of Singapore through the years. Join us as we take you through part of the trail starting from Raffles Landing to CHIJMES.
Things to bring: Drinking water, umbrella/cap/hat and mosquito repellent. Do wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Registration will be on a first-come first-served basis and will close when slots are full. Successful registrants will be notified by 24 May 2017.

Nparks Pioneers Trail

Learn about the trade and ways of life of Singapore's early immigrants in this walking trail around a quiet enclave amidst the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. Visit places of worship and old shop houses built in the 1800s. Spice up your walk with a close look at interesting fruit and spice trees planted along the way and visit the old well at the foot of Ann Siang Hill.
Things to bring: Water, umbrella and mosquito repellent. Do wear comfortable clothes, preferably long pants and covered shoes. Registration will be on a first-come first-served basis and will close when slots are full. Successful registrants will be notified by 25 May 2017.

A great introduction to the history of the Singapore Botanic Gardens in a 1-hour walking tour of Heritage Trail. Learn about the moments that lead to the boom of the rubber industry and how orchids are intertwined with Singapore.

Learning Forest Tour

Join in the free tour of The Learning Forest which features a network of boardwalks and elevated walkways that allow visitors to explore habitats ranging from a freshwater forest wetland to a lowland rainforest. About Family Time Weekend

In a survey conducted by Families for Life in 2016, it was found that approximately half of the 700 respondents spent more than 36 hours a week with their immediate family members. However, 1 in 10 spent 6 hours or less with their immediate families a week and 50% spent 2 hours or less a week with their extended families.

The Families for Life Council endeavours to provide as many platforms as possible for families to spend time together. With this in mind, we are happy to bring to you, our brand new Family Time Weekend, happening from Fri, 26 May 2017 to Sun, 28 May 2017! We have lined up a host of exciting family-bonding activities for both young and old.
